| Cardiology Services
Cardiology services at Marymount Medical Center provide
a complete diagnostic program for heart disease. These services include
Cardiac Stress Testing, Cardiac Ultrasound (Echocardiograph), Cardiac
Catherization (the "dye" test to find blockages in the arteries
of the heart), Balloon Angioplasty, Stent, or Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery.
Marymount Medical Center has invested over a million dollars in state-of-the-art
technology for the Cardiothorasic Unit (Open Heart and Angioplasty Recovery
Unit) and Telemetry Monitoring. We also have some of the best, well-trained
cardiovascular specialists in the country.
Case Management
Case Management is provided to each patient upon admission.
Case managers serve as a patient advocate and promote quality care with
efficient use of resources. They handle Medicaid and insurance pre-certification,
assist in developing a plan of care, and coordinate a discharge plan in
conjunction with discharge planners, physicians and the family/patient.

Chapel and Chaplaincy Services
Marymount's chapel is located on the first floor and is
open to persons of all faiths. We hope you and your family will feel free
to use it at any time. The hospital Chaplain is professionally trained
and certified by national credentialing agencies. The following services
are provided by the Chaplain:
- Pastoral and referral services to persons of all beliefs
- Crisis intervention
- Facilitation of the patient's understanding of the
relationships between physical, emotional, social and spiritual health
The hospital chaplain will be contacted at your request.
If you would like to speak with a minister, priest, or rabbi please notify
your nurse.
Dietary
A full service cafeteria is located on the first floor
beside the pharmacy. The cafeteria is open from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm and
5:00 PM to 6:00 PM Hot meals are prepared for breakfast, lunch and dinner,
with snack items available throughout the day. Our Registered Dietitians
provide nutritional assessments and instructions for inpatients and outpatients.
Registered Dietitians also provide nutrition information to the community
through Diabetes classes and Prenatal classes.
Emergency Services
Marymount has a fully equipped emergency department, which
is staffed 24 hours by physicians. The nursing staff has been trained
to quickly and skillfully respond to emergency situations. Our specially
designed trauma unit can make a difference for those who are critically
ill or injured. Efficient and immediate care for emergency patients is
one of the most important services performed at the hospital.
Health Information
A complete record of your treatment and progress is maintained
during your stay. This record is vitally important to your physician for
medical information needed to giving future care. The record is assembled
and filed permanently in the medical records department. All records are
confidential.
Intensive Care Unit
Our ICU is a ten bed critical care unit. Patients in this
unit generally consist of ventilator patients, surgery patients, open-heart
patients, angioplasty and stent patients, and patients requiring invasive
monitoring. We are located on the first floor across from our Medical/Surgical
unit.
Laboratory
Most patients admitted to the hospital
have routine laboratory tests of blood and urine as ordered by the physician.
The laboratory is under the direction of a physician (pathologist) and
staffed by laboratory technologists and technicians. Laboratory personnel
will collect specimens and perform tests using state-of-the-art instruments.
Laboratory tests are crucial in the diagnosis and treatment of your condition.
Medical Care
Your physician has the primary responsibility for directing
your care. Consequently, any questions you may have about your test results,
your medical condition or your medical treatment can best be answered
by your physician during his or her personal visits with you.
Marymount offers a broad range of medical staff specialists
including family practice, general surgery, internal medicine, radiology,
general practice, obstetrics, pediatrics, emergency medicine, anesthesiology,
orthopedics, opthamology, nephrology, urology, podiatry, gynecology, onocology,
and invasive cardiology.
Nursing care
Marymount Medical Center's plan for providing nursing
care is designed to support improvement and innovation in nursing practice.
It is based on both the needs of the patients to be served and the hospital's
mission. A Registered Nurse will develop your plan of care based upon
your initial history and physical assessment in collaboration with other
health team members. Your response to nursing interventions will be monitored
and adjusted accordingly until you meet established goals. Family members
or significant others who serve as a primary support person in your life
will be scheduled in the plan of care as appropriate to facilitate your
recovery. Patient and family education is a priority to assist you in
maintaining a health lifestyle. The decisions you make today can affect
the quality of your health in the future.
Obstetrics
Marymount's OB unit is located on the second floor. Our
OB Medical Staff is comprised of four OB/GYN physicians, three pediatricians
and two family practitioners. The nursing staff consists of registered
nurses and certified nurse assistants, each dedicated to providing quality
care from the teaching of childbirth classes to the postpartum discharge
instructions. The unit includes a birthing room where the expectant mother
can labor and deliver in a comfortable, homelike setting with her family
by her side. We also have a labor room and a second delivery room where
cesarean deliveries can be performed. The postpartum unit is made up of
both private and semiprivate rooms as well as a newborn nursery.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy consists of medically prescribed
treatments for improving or restoring functions that have been impaired
or permanently lost by illness or injury. OT helps people regain, develop,
and build skills that are important for independent functioning, health,
well-being, security and happiness. OT practitioners work with people
of all ages from birth to senior citizens.
Orthopedics
Orthopedics is the medical specialty devoted to bones,
joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves. It is these things that
allow you to move, work and be active in your everyday life. In 2000,
more than 1000 orthopedic surgeries were performed at Marymount Medical
Center. Those surgeries ranged from a simple cyst removal to more complex
procedures like total hip or knee replacement and spinal fusions with
instrumentation.
Pharmacy
Medications prescribed by your physician are dispensed
by registered pharmacists in close cooperation with the nurse responsible
for your care. Marymount provides inpatient pharmacy services 7 days per
week from 7:30 am to 6:00 PM We also provide a retail pharmacy for patients
leaving the hospital from 11:30 am to 9:00 PM Monday through Friday, and
11:30 am to 6:00 Saturday, Sunday and holidays.
Physical Therapy
While you are in the hospital and/or after you are discharged,
your physician may prescribe physical therapy for you.
Physical therapy literally means to treat with physical
agents such as heat, cold, light, sound, electricity and water to relieve
pain, increase muscle power and improve functional abilities.
Physical therapy is prescribed by your physician, and
he or she may order specific treatment or procedures to help you overcome
weakness/ improve in function / decrease pain, secondary to surgery, illness
or accident. Physical therapy services are offered on both inpatient and
outpatient basis under the direction of a licensed physical therapist.

Radiology
Marymount offers a complete range of diagnostic imaging
services including X-ray examinations, ultrasound, mammography, CT scanning
and nuclear medicine examinations.
The radiology department uses some of the most advanced
and sophisticated equipment in the hospital. It is directed by a radiologist
who is a physician trained in this medical specialty.
All imaging procedures are performed by radiological technologists
and are studied by a radiologist and your physician to help in your diagnosis
and to determine the course of treatment.
Respiratory Therapy
The respiratory department provides specialized breathing-assistance
machines and a host of sophisticated equipment for testing and measuring
breathing and for helping your physician treat chest and heart conditions.
Respiratory therapists provide the special skills and
techniques required to treat breathing difficulties whenever they occur.
Seton Home Health
Sometimes patients can continue recuperating at home with
the help of home health agency. Marymount's Seton Home Health is a state
licensed, Medicare, Medicaid, and JCAHO certified agency that has been
providing home health services to Laurel County since 1975. Admissions
to this agency can only be made upon recommendation of a physician. Seton
Home Health can provide a service or a combination of services in the
patient's home such as: skilled nursing, physical therapy, speech therapy,
occupational therapy, and home health aide. For more information, call

Tri-County Hospice
Marymount's Tri-County Hospice is available to provide
comfort and support to patients and their families when a life limiting
illness no longer responds to cure oriented treatments. The goal of hospice
care is to improve the quality of a patient's last days by offering comfort
and dignity. Tri-county hospice addresses a;; symptoms of a disease, with
special emphasis on controlling a patient's pain and discomfort. We also
deal with the emotional, social and spiritual impact of the disease on
the patient and the patient's family. Care is provided by a team-oriented
group of specifically trained professionals with services available 24
hours a day, 7 days a week to residents of Laurel, Knox and Whitley counties.
Tri-County Hospice also offers a variety of bereavement and counseling

Volunteers
Marymount is fortunate to have auxiliary members and area
ministers who donate their time. The volunteers strive to make your stay
more pleasant by visiting with patients, distributing magazines, assisting
the nursing staff, providing patient items and ministering to those in
need.
